Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced SAP ABAP / ABAP Cloud Technical Architect to take overall technical responsibility for AP5 WRICEF development within Lot 1, covering architecture decisions, development standards, code quality, performance, security, and technical coordination of the development team.

The role will work across ABAP Cloud and on-premise development models, providing architectural guidance and ensuring that SAP developments follow modern development principles, established patterns, quality standards, and Clean Core-oriented approaches.

The architect will also lead technical design for Plant Maintenance (PM) enhancements, embedded BW queries, forms, workflows, output management, and related development topics, while working closely with testing, migration, and cutover teams.

Key Responsibilities

SAP Development Architecture

  • Take overall technical responsibility for AP5 WRICEF (E/R/F/W) development activities within Lot 1.
  • Define and govern architecture decisions for ABAP Cloud and on-premise ABAP developments.
  • Establish and maintain SAP development coding standards, naming conventions, architecture patterns, and technical guidelines.
  • Ensure development solutions are scalable, maintainable, secure, performant, and aligned with SAP best practices.
  • Provide architectural guidance for custom developments and extensions.
  • Review proposed technical solutions and validate their architectural and technical feasibility.
  • Promote appropriate use of standard SAP functionality and modern extensibility approaches.

Development Governance & Quality

  • Own and coordinate code review processes across the development team.
  • Establish quality gates and ensure adherence to development standards.
  • Govern ATC (ABAP Test Cockpit) and Sonar quality checks.
  • Monitor and drive improvements in code quality, maintainability, performance, and security.
  • Identify technical debt and coordinate remediation activities.
  • Ensure appropriate authentication and authorization concepts are considered in development solutions.
  • Support resolution of complex technical defects and development issues.

Development Team Coordination

  • Coordinate the SAP development team from a technical perspective.
  • Support sprint planning, technical task prioritization, and development estimation.
  • Assign and coordinate technical development activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to developers.
  • Support defect analysis and coordinate development fixes.
  • Ensure technical dependencies between development streams are identified and managed.

SAP PM & WRICEF Development

  • Provide technical design and architectural guidance for Plant Maintenance (PM) enhancements.
  • Support development scenarios including:
    • CO-PA derivations
    • AUFK field enhancements
    • BRF+ output determination
    • Forms
    • Workflows
    • Reports and queries
  • Design and review appropriate WRICEF solutions while ensuring adherence to SAP architecture and development standards.

Embedded Analytics

  • Provide technical guidance for queries and analytical developments in SAP embedded BW.
  • Work with CDS-based analytical models and embedded analytics requirements.
  • Ensure analytical solutions meet performance and maintainability requirements.

Forms, Workflow & Output Management

  • Design and oversee solutions using Adobe Forms and Smart Forms.
  • Provide technical guidance for SAP output management.
  • Design and review SAP workflow solutions.
  • Ensure forms, workflows, and output-related developments follow project architecture and quality standards.

Testing, Migration & Cutover

  • Work closely with testing teams to ensure technical solutions are testable and correctly implemented.
  • Support defect analysis, prioritization, and resolution throughout testing cycles.
  • Coordinate closely with migration and cutover teams.
  • Identify technical dependencies and risks affecting migration and deployment.
  • Support technical planning and execution of cutover activities.
  • Ensure developments are appropriately prepared for deployment into target environments.

Required Skills & Experience

SAP ABAP / Development

  • Extensive experience in SAP ABAP development and technical architecture.
  • Strong hands-on experience with ABAP Object-Oriented programming (ABAP OO).
  • Strong experience with CDS Views and RAP (RESTful ABAP Programming Model).
  • Proven experience designing and governing complex SAP development solutions.
  • Strong understanding of SAP development architecture, patterns, standards, and best practices.
  • Experience with both ABAP Cloud and on-premise ABAP development approaches.

WRICEF

  • Strong experience with WRICEF development and governance.
  • Ability to define appropriate technical solutions for Reports, Interfaces, Forms, Enhancements, and Workflows.
  • Experience reviewing and governing WRICEF solutions across a large SAP project.

Forms, Workflow & Output

  • Strong experience with Adobe Forms and/or Smart Forms.
  • Experience with SAP output management.
  • Strong understanding of SAP Workflow.
  • Experience with BRF+, particularly in output-related scenarios.

Development Quality & Governance

  • Strong experience with ATC (ABAP Test Cockpit).
  • Experience with Sonar / SonarQube for code quality management.
  • Experience establishing and enforcing coding standards and naming conventions.
  • Strong knowledge of performance optimization and secure SAP development.
  • Good understanding of authentication, authorization, and SAP security concepts.
  • Experience managing structured code review processes.

Transport & Development Lifecycle

  • Experience with gCTS / Git-enabled Change and Transport System.
  • Experience with CTS+ and SAP transport management.
  • Understanding of modern source-control and CI/CD-oriented SAP development practices.

Architecture & Technical Leadership

  • Proven experience defining SAP technical architecture and development patterns.
  • Strong ability to make architectural decisions and communicate their technical rationale.
  • Experience coordinating development teams and technical workstreams.
  • Experience with sprint planning and Agile development methodologies.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

SAPUI5 / Front-End Development

  • SAPUI5 Freestyle skills are required.
  • Experience developing or architecting SAPUI5 Freestyle applications.
  • Understanding of integration between SAPUI5 applications and backend services such as OData/CDS/RAP.
  • Ability to ensure frontend developments follow the overall SAP technical architecture.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • German language skills.
  • SAP S/4HANA transformation experience.

Language Requirements

  • English – fluent, written and spoken

German language skills would be beneficial for communication with German-speaking stakeholders and project teams but are not considered mandatory based on the stated requirements.

Seniority Expectations – Master

The successful candidate is expected to operate as a Master-level SAP Technical Architect, taking end-to-end technical ownership of the development workstream.

The candidate should be capable of making architecture decisions independently, establishing development standards, governing code quality, coordinating developers, resolving complex technical issues, and ensuring that SAP developments meet functional, architectural, performance, security, and quality requirements.

The role requires both hands-on SAP development expertise and strong technical leadership, rather than being purely an architectural or governance position.
