Role Overview:

We are looking for an experienced Senior AS400 / IBM i Developer to join a development and maintenance team working on enterprise applications hosted on the IBM i (AS/400) platform.

The role focuses on the development, maintenance and evolution of business applications using COBOL and CLP, with strong knowledge of SQL and DB2 for i. The successful candidate will also work with MQ-based integrations and the AS/400 scheduling environment.

Experience with Adelia is considered a valuable advantage; project-specific hands-on training will be provided to candidates who have the appropriate IBM i background.

The role requires strong technical problem-solving capabilities and the ability to collaborate effectively with both local and remote teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, maintain and enhance applications running on the IBM i / AS400 platform.
• Analyse business and technical requirements and translate them into appropriate technical solutions.
• Develop and maintain programs using COBOL and CLP.
• Perform corrective and evolutionary maintenance of existing applications.
• Analyse existing code and application flows to identify technical issues and improvement opportunities.
• Develop and execute SQL queries for application development, troubleshooting and data analysis.
• Work with DB2 for AS400 / IBM i relational databases.
• Troubleshoot application, database and integration issues.
• Investigate production incidents and identify root causes.
• Implement corrective solutions and application enhancements.
• Work with the MQ framework for application and system integration.
• Manage or support jobs and processes using the AS/400 scheduler.
• Participate in testing and validation of application changes.
• Support deployment and release activities according to established procedures.
• Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing.
• Collaborate with business analysts, developers, technical teams and other stakeholders.

Required Skills & Experience:

IBM i / AS400

• Strong professional experience with the AS400 / IBM i platform.
• For a Master-level profile, approximately 7 years of relevant experience with AS400 projects and development.
• Strong hands-on experience with COBOL.
• Strong hands-on experience with CLP / Control Language.
• Experience maintaining and developing enterprise applications on IBM i.
• Good understanding of IBM i application architecture and development practices.

Database & SQL

• Advanced knowledge of SQL.
• Strong understanding of relational database concepts.
• Strong experience with DB2 for AS400 / DB2 for i.
• Ability to analyse database-related application issues.
• Experience developing queries and supporting application data processing.

Integration & Scheduling

• Knowledge of the MQ framework.
• Understanding of messaging and application integration concepts.
• Knowledge of the AS/400 scheduler and batch/job scheduling.
• Experience troubleshooting scheduled jobs and batch processes.

Adelia

• Knowledge or previous experience with Adelia is a valuable plus.
• Candidates without Adelia experience but with strong AS400/COBOL/CLP skills can be considered, as hands-on Adelia training will be provided on the project.

Technical Problem Solving:

Seniority Expectations – Master:

The candidate should have approximately 7 years of relevant AS400 development experience, with strong hands-on knowledge of COBOL, CLP, SQL and DB2 for i.

The role requires the ability to analyse complex technical problems, identify root causes and implement reliable solutions across application, database and integration layers.

The candidate should also be comfortable collaborating with local and distributed teams, contributing technical expertise, supporting less experienced colleagues and taking ownership of assigned development and maintenance activities.
